Mosonmagyaróvár is a typical near-border settlement located 15 km from the Austrian and 18 km from the Slovak border, at the crossing point of the rivers Lajta and Mosoni-Danube. It has got a population of about 31.000. The town is in the heart of Szigetköz which is called 'the country of the thousand islands'. Mosonmagyaróvár was already known in the Roman age as a watch post named Ad Flexum. Moson and Magyaróvár united on 1st July 1939. In our time, the town and the environs are a highly developed agricultural region. The town's most ancient and largest green is the Wittmann Park, wearing the name of Antal Wittmann who was at one time an estate manager organizing the establishment of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the control of the River Lajta. The visitors can get acquainted with the historic downtown by a pleasant sightseeing.

Nowadays the town's most important tourist attraction is the thermal water which surfaced from 2000 m deep in 1966. Its temperature is 75 °C and it contains sodium/hydrogen carbonates and chlorides. The water was certified to be medicinal water in 1967 suitable for the treatment of rheumatic and locomotor diseases, respiratory disorders, inflammations, gastric and intestinal complaints.

From the middle of the 1990s there were important investments and developments of the thermal bath site; hotels, restaurants, apartments, service and therapeutic units have built. The guests can take advantage of different services such as sports, relaxing and healing facilities all the year round.

The largest inland world of Hungary is Szigetköz, surrounded by the rivers Danube and Mosoni-Danube. It is called the gift of Danube because it was built by the alluvial deposit of the river, and thousands of islands were created this way. The water labyrinth is a real paradise for water sportsmen, and the nature-loving tourists can wander all day long along the river. In the villages of Szigetköz you can always find something new: when tasting a special dish in one of the nice restaurants, when cycling through the fields or when meeting the local people.
